Overview

This is an interactive one-day refresher, designed to help participants who have previously completed a supervision-training course, reconnect with, and develop the principles, philosophy and practice underpinning the 4x4x4 model of reflective/restorative supervision. In particular, the day provides opportunities for developing supervisory skills through: 1. Exploring (reminding & reconsidering) the four functions of supervision & the key stakeholders & their implications for planning sessions 2. Reflecting on the importance and practice of ‘reflection’ and ‘analysis’ in supervision 3. Considering recording issues 4. Reinforcing the need for two-way planning/preparation for supervision & 5. Reminding participants of the value of a negotiating meaningful agreements/contracts around supervision. The day is interactive involving small & large group-work, active reflection and analysis

By the end of the course delegates will have:- 

  • A greater understanding of the practice and purposes of reflective/restorative supervision

  • Enhanced skills in using the 4x4x4 model to integrate and meet the needs of key stakeholders

  • Greater understanding and development of skills to improve practitioners performance through supervision

  • Refreshed confidence in using tools to support analysis within supervision

    Appreciative enquiry
    Recognising unhealthy processes in supervision
    Managing challenging discussions
    Supervision skills to support containment to manage practice anxiety
  • Supporting cultural competency through the tool Social Graces (Burnham)
  • Tools to support supervision – drama triangle, spheres of control and discrepancy matrix.
