Mental Health and managing risky behaviour in adolescence

Course Aim:


Course outcomes: 

Participants will be offered the opportunity to:

  • Understand mental ill health, the types and problems common in young people

  • Examine a four-level framework for practice including the need to take a mentalising stance (Anna Freud model)
  • Understand teenage development, brain development and risk-taking behaviour
  • Explore partnership contextual working to help ‘prevent, disrupt and navigate’ people, places and spaces
  • Explore how to develop relationships and build resilience with young people
  • Know about the importance of ‘shame’ and ‘recognition’ for working with young people
  • Learn about balancing risk (protection and enablement) to support vulnerable young people to thrive
  • Access resources for young people, professionals and parents.
