Working with Physical Abuse

Course Aim:

To give participants an opportunity to consider some of the dilemmas involved in working with families, where physical abuse may be an issue.

Course outcomes: 

Participants will be offered the opportunity to:

  • Recognise signs, symptoms and indicators of physical abuse
  • Explore some of the short and long-term impacts on children and young people
  • Develop an understanding of behavioural indicators in children and their parents/carers
  • Recognise the relationship/overlap with other categories of abuse
  • Understand how to use the assessment framework to complete assessments which are informed by family history, dynamics and current context in order to reach an understanding of the needs of the child.
