The importance of Life Story work for children and young people in residential and / or foster placements has been well documented. It is widely acknowledged that an understanding of one’s own history has a positive impact on future wellbeing.
Sadly opportunities to participate in Life Story work aren’t always available or accessible for children and young people who have learning disabilities and Autistic Spectrum Disorders. This course has been specifically designed to offer the chance to explore the evidence base supporting Life Story work and discuss ways to overcome the challenges in making this a positive and fulfilling experience for those taking part. Participants will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with recognised Life Story work tools as well as explore creative ways to engage disabled children and young people in understanding their own life experiences.
