Key Practice Skills


This two day course aims to develop core assessment and review skills and practice in the delivery of Adult Social Care.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be offered the opportunity to:

  • Support people to undertake their Supported Self Assessment
  • Assess, using an empowering and facilitative approach
  • Use a range of different assessment tools to identify the needs of the whole family
  • Understand and apply the legal basis of assessment and service provision
  • Identify and assess the needs of carers in a whole family approach
  • Manage conflict and deal with difficult conversations with confidence and respect
  • Identify when a reassessment is more appropriate than a review, because of a change in need
  • Review planned outcomes and assess whether the existing support plan still meets needs and aspirations
  • Support people to understand changes relevant to them, including evolving service and managing money options
  • Identify new risks and safeguarding issues
