Lessons learnt from Serious Case Reviews

Course Aim:

This one day workshop draws on key National and Local reports and review to analyse recurrent themes and their implication in practice.

Course outcomes: 

Participants will be offered the opportunity to:

  • Offer an historical perspective
  • Review thresholds and processes for serious case reviews and child safeguarding practices reviews
  • Understand the findings from recent inquiries and reviews into child death and serious harm regarding:
    • the children, their circumstances, their characteristics, their needs and the failure to ensure their protection; and
    • the families of the children including relevant parental and environmental factors;
  • Review the implications of the findings from recent inquiries and reviews into child death and serious harm for:
    • -agency policy and guidance
    • -practitioners’ practice and
    • -multi-agency working.
