Chairing Meetings

Course Aim:
To provide staff with an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in chairing child care meetings, including looked after reviews and child protection conferences.
Course outcomes:
Participants will be offered the opportunity to:
- Explain how groups form and function
- Have learned techniques to improve their chairing skills and know how to manage meetings well
- Consider how local approaches affect meetings (e.g. sos, tip etc)
- Explore how digital/hybrid working effects meetings- for chairs, delegates and families
- Understand the importance of managing: people, process, emotions and behaviours
- Promote active involvement and participation by all stakeholders including where appropriate, the child
- Examined their own strengths, transferrable skills and areas of difficulty in meetings
- Have explored how and when to intervene in different and difficult situations
- Have examined a tool to aid chairing and minute taking at the same time
- Understand the stages, power and dynamics in meetings and know about ‘group think’
- Recognise the need to analyse, synthesise information and produce outcome focussed plans.
