Chairing Meetings

Course Aim:

To provide staff with an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in chairing child care meetings, including looked after reviews and child protection conferences.

Course outcomes: 

Participants will be offered the opportunity to:

  • Explain how groups form and function
  • Have learned techniques to improve their chairing skills and know how to manage meetings well
  • Consider how local approaches affect meetings (e.g. sos, tip etc)
  • Explore how digital/hybrid working effects meetings- for chairs, delegates and families
  • Understand the importance of managing: people, process, emotions and behaviours
  • Promote active involvement and participation by all stakeholders including where appropriate, the child
  • Examined their own strengths, transferrable skills and areas of difficulty in meetings
  • Have explored how and when to intervene in different and difficult situations
  • Have examined a tool to aid chairing and minute taking at the same time
  • Understand the stages, power and dynamics in meetings and know about ‘group think’
  • Recognise the need to analyse, synthesise information and produce outcome focussed plans.
