Supervising to Safeguard Children within an Integrated Child Care Service
Duration and method:
The course consists of two whole day sessions and two half day sessions and will take an action learning approach. Participants will be asked to complete tasks between sessions.
Aim
This course is designed to support and develop supervision practice within an integrated child care service. It will use the commissioning agencies supervision policy as the basis for considering how supervisors can best promote safe effective child care practice.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will:
- Have considered the meaning of supervision within different professional groups and identified issues that need to be addressed in order to effectively implement the supervision policy
- Be able to describe the link between supervision style and outcomes for children
- Be able to help workers to analyse information and use this analysis to inform decision making
- Understand the possible impact of child care work on the worker Be able to use supervision to work positively with emotions in order to ensure effective judgements
- Be able to work within an adult learning framework in order to improve performance
- Be aware of their own strengths as a supervisor and areas for further development
