Aim
This one day course aims to give delegates a greater understanding of how sexual abusers rationalise and perpetrate their offences, and what help is available for them to change their behaviour.
Outcomes
By the end of the day delegates will be able to:
- Define sexual abuse and types of offenders and their different motives
- Bring clarity to false assumptions and myths that can be made about sex offending
- Outline the criminal and civil legal framework related to sexual offending
- Outline the behaviour cycle of perpetrators of sexual abuse
- Explain the different types of grooming behaviour used by perpetrators to gain the trust of potential victims and their protectors
- Explain the role of fantasy and distorted belief systems in sex offending
- Outline the possibility of working with sex offenders in denial
- Explain whether reunification of the family is ever a safe option for the sex offender
- Outline possible programme available for the assessment and treatment of offenders
