Basic Child Protection Awareness
Aim
This two day course is designed to give staff without a social work qualification an opportunity to consider their role in the child protection process and to further their understanding of the situations which may make children more vulnerable to abuse.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the current context within which child protection takes place, including 'Every Child Matters', 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' and associated guidance
- Recognise when a child may be at risk of significant harm and be able to respond appropriately
- Understand the factors that may affect parenting capacity including parental mental ill health, domestic violence, parental substance misuse and parents with learning disabilities
- Understand current information sharing guidance
- Understand their role within child protection and work effectively with other professionals and agencies to keep children safe from harm and promote their welfare
