Safeguarding children - the role of the social worker
Target group
Social work staff who have, or will have, case responsibility for children
who may be at risk of harm.
Aim
This two day course aims to give social workers new to child protection
work an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills required for safe
effective child protection practice.
Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- understand the role of the social worker within the overall requirement to safeguard children from harm
- work within the legal framework and local procedures
- respond appropriately to referrals regarding concerns that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm
- use their authority as a social worker appropriately, working sensitively with parents whilst ensuring the child is protected from harm
- contribute appropriately to child protection conferences understand the role of a key worker where children are subject of a child protection plan
