Conducting Section 47 enquiries

Target group
Social work staff who have responsibility for conducting sec.47 enquiries

Aim
This two day course aims give practitioners an opportunity to reflect on their current practice in relation to child protection and develop skills in using research and practice knowledge when conducting enquiries under section 47. There will a particular focus on ensuring enquiries are focussed on working with and listening to children and young people.

Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will be able to:

  • understand the social work role in relation conducting child protection enquiries
  • work effectively with other agencies to plan and conduct enquiries
  • use current research in relation key areas of significant harm
  • develop skills and be introduced to tools which help to analyse, critically review and evaluate information within a child protection context
  • ensure that practice is child focussed whilst working sensitively with parents and carers to meet the needs of the child
  • make effective decisions and develop outcome focused plans when enquiries are complete
