Understanding and working with domestic violence
Target group
Staff who work regularly with children living in families where domestic
violence may be an issue
Aim
This two day course aims to explore how can work effectively with children
who are living in situations of domestic violence.
Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
- define domestic violence and understand different models/explanations
- use research findings in relation to the impact of domestic violence on children, in order to inform the assessment processes
- carry out Domestic violence focussed assessments in line with national frameworks that take account of the complexity of engaging with that whole family and differentiate between the needs of children, mothers/women, perpetrators/men and the extended family
- understand how resilience theory can help to understand and address the needs of children
- work alongside other agencies to plan interventions that both safeguard the child and meet the needs of the whole family
