Safeguarding Foundation

Duration:
This course can be delivered as a one or a two day version.

Target group
Staff and their managers who regularly come into contact with vulnerable children and their families.

Aim
To provide participants with an opportunity to explore their role in working with the multi-agency network to safeguard and protect children from significant harm.

Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will have been given the opportunity to:

Day one

  • Identify the legal and procedural framework in place to safeguard and protect children for significant harm
  • Recognise indicators that may be evident when a child is experiencing significant harm
  • Describe how and when they would take action in response to concerns about a child
  • Identify information sharing guidance and how this affects them within their role

Day two

  • Describe parental stressors that may impact on parenting capacity
  • Recognise and respond to the indicators that may be evident when a child is experiencing significant harm
  • Recognise the impact of child protection work on the child, the family and the worker
  • Work together with others to develop effective interventions and plans to safeguard children
  • Use lessons from serious case reviews to inform their practice, particularly in relation tot assessment and communicating across multi-agency network's

Core Principle
This course is based on the philosophy that safeguarding of children and young people is everyone's responsibility.
