Safeguarding and promoting disabled children's welfare
Duration: 2 days
Aim
To develop participant's awareness of safeguarding and promoting children's welfare; and
to examine the particular vulnerability of disabled children.
Outcomes
By the end of the course participants will have an awareness of:
- The meaning of 'safeguarding' and 'promoting children's welfare and the legal framework supporting this
- The impact attitudes, values and experiences may have on the practice of safeguarding and protecting disabled children
- Factors that lead to some children being more vulnerable to abuse than others, with particular relevance to disabled children
- How to promote resilience in disabled children
- Participants own role and responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children, and how to respond appropriately to any concerns about a child.
