Communicating with Children
Aim
This two-day course aims to give participants an opportunity to develop their skills in communicating with children and young people. As well as introducing practical techniques, the course will draw on the research literature (Jones 2003) in order to provide an evidence base for their practice.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will:
- Be able to take developmental considerations into account when communicating with children and young people
- Understand the effects of adverse experiences on children and how these may effect the communication process
- Be aware of a range of techniques that can be used to facilitate communication
- Work positively with race culture and religion in direct work with children
- Understand the issues that need to be taken into account when working with disabled children
- Feel confident in the use of verbal and non verbal communication
