Direct work and communication with Looked After Children
Target group
Field and residential social workers working with Looked After Children.
Aim
This two day course aims to provide an understanding of the development
needs of children in the looked after system and develop a range of skills
to aid communication.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the developmental needs of children/young people in the Looked After system and how these might affect communication
- Be aware of the range of techniques that might assist communication - play, drama, story work, art etc
- Understand how to use direct observations of children in order to understand and communicate with them
- Develop skills in communicating with children /young people
- Work within an appropriate framework in relation to confidentiality and ethics
