Effective communication and engagement with children and young people
Target group
Staff working regularly with children and young people who may be required
to complete or contribute to assessments and plans.
Aim
To give participants an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to
assist communication with children and young people. The day will give
particular attention to the communication needs of young people who have
specific communication needs.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Be able to take developmental considerations into account when communicating with children and young people
- Have identified the challenges that need to be taken into account when working with children with specific communication needs
- Have considered how adverse experiences may effect communication
- Be aware of a range of techniques that can be used to facilitate communication
- Feel confident in the use of verbal and non verbal communication
