Developing effective plans for looked after children

Target group
Social Workers responsible for developing plans for Looked After Children.

Aim
This one day course aims to consider best practice in child care planning for looked after children. Lessons from research and guidance from current law and policy will be used to enable participants to explore their understanding of creative and effective care planning.

Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the theory and principles that underpin effective care planning
  • Consider how assessment informs effective care plans Use a range of methods to guide and create effective care plans
  • Work creatively in partnership with children, parents and other disciplines

National Occupational Standards for Social Work:

  • Key Role 1: Unit 3
  • Key Role 2: Units 4,5,6,7 and 9
  • Key Role 3: Units 10 and 11
  • Key Role 5: Units 15,16 and 17

This course will draw on materials created by the National Children's Bureau, British Association of Adoption and Fostering & Family Futures Consortium.
