Conducting Initial and Core Assessments for NQSW's
Target group
Social work staff with responsibility for completing initial and core
assessments.
Aim
This two day course aims to provide participants with an overview of the
Assessment Framework for Children in Need. It highlights the importance
of the framework in systematically gathering information and then analysing
this information to describe the child's needs and develop effective plans.
Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- understand the role that the National Assessment Framework plays in the assessment of children's needs
- work with children, families and other professionals to gather appropriate information in line with the framework
- understand the importance of using professional judgement in analysing the information gathered and know when they may need to access specific information in order to assist the process of analysis develop effective outcome focused plans for children in need, integrating these with child protection plans where appropriate
- record assessments using required documentation
