Assessing the needs of children where parents have a learning disability

Target group
All staff who are working with parents with a learning disability and/or their children

Aim
This one day course aims to consider how assessment processes including the Common Assessment Framework and the Assessment Framework for Children in Need can be used to work sensitively and effectively with learning disabled parents in order to ensure the needs of their children are met.

Outcomes
By the end of the day delegates will be able to:

  • describe current research knowledge in relation to learning disabled parents;
  • identify how attitudes and values may impact on the assessment process;
  • use assessment frameworks where parents have a learning disability;
  • use assessment tools designed for work with parents with a learning disability; and
  • identify the roles of different professionals within the process of assessment
